The aesthetic image aimed in this field is determined according to the physical and social characteristics of the individual. Therefore, they are special designs that vary from person to person. After the mouth, jaw and facial structure of the person who wants to have aesthetic teeth are evaluated together, the natural and ideal image is designed in a computer environment. In this way, this design is presented to the patient’s liking and a successful treatment process is realized.

What is Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening is an aesthetic dental procedure to remove discoloration and make teeth appear whiter and brighter.

Today, removing discoloration and achieving ideal whiteness has become more accessible than ever before. Teeth whitening can successfully eliminate tooth discoloration. Thanks to this procedure, teeth can lighten several shades of their normal color tones. Applying this procedure, which has different types, in certain periods will help you achieve a healthier and more attractive appearance.

Maintaining your regular tooth brushing habits after teeth whitening can increase the duration of the procedure. Offering many advantages in terms of dental health and aesthetic appearance, this procedure allows you to speak and smile with confidence. In cases where uncomfortable situations and unwanted discoloration are handled by a professional dentist, it will be easier to achieve successful results. Remember that teeth whitening not only improves your smile, but also supports your overall dental health.

Do teeth go back to the way they were after whitening?

Teeth do not return to their former color and will always be whiter than before. However, depending on the patients’ habits and oral care, sometimes a reinforcement treatment may be required, which is used 1 or 2 times after a year.

Habits such as constant coffee, smoking and red wine can also cause teeth to lose their whiteness. Such habits cause teeth to lose their whiteness faster than normal. This requires brushing teeth immediately after consuming beverages such as tea, coffee and wine.

Teeth whitening is an effective method used to remove tooth discoloration and achieve a whiter smile. There are two main types of this procedure: office whitening and home whitening.

Office Bleaching

In-office whitening is the most effective of all whitening systems. Since the peroxide content of the whitening agents used during the examination is high, the procedure can be fast and long-lasting. However, for more effective results, scaling is recommended before the procedure. Photographs are taken from the patient for color determination before and after the sessions. Usually 2 or 3 sessions are applied and the duration varies according to the coloration of the teeth. A protective barrier is used before the procedure to protect the gums, then the whitening gel is applied to the teeth. It is recommended to avoid coloring foods and smoking between sessions. Sensitivity may be experienced, but desensitizing toothpastes can alleviate this.

Home Bleaching

In home whitening, the color is determined and a transparent plaque suitable for the measurement taken from the patient is produced. Whitening agents containing a lower percentage of “Carbamide Peroxide” are used. The patient is given tubes containing plaque and whitening agent, and the physician explains how to apply it. The patient applies 2 times a day for 2 weeks or only at night for 1-2 weeks in accordance with the physician’s recommendations. The treatment is monitored with weekly check-ups and necessary changes are made.

Success Rate in Whitening

Studies have shown that the satisfaction rate of patients is high, especially in tea, coffee, smoking and age-related discolorations. However, the success rate may be low in discolorations due to medications or excessive fluoride. When choosing a whitening method, the dentist and the patient should decide together.
